I'm back from China!!!!

     Hi!   My name is Connor John Corkern, but everyone calls me Connor man.  I'm from Amite, Louisiana.  My momma Katie is a junior high school history teacher, and my daddy Coye is a Louisiana State Trooper.   I have a big brother, Aaron who is 3 years old, and a very large family that loves me too.   I was born on November 30, 2006 with two rare conditions, Congenital Panhypopituitarism and Optic Nerve Hypoplasia.  These conditons mean I am hormone deficiant and blind.....but don't let that get you down I am a very happy baby that loves to smile and giggle.  I love to be ticked on my big belly and have lots of attention! 

   Because my optic nerves didn't fully develop, I've never seen my momma's face like my daddy and Aaron can. And while I know they love me very much, I want to be able to see them smiling at me just like they see me smiling at them. 

   In years past this wouldn't have been possible, but I'm a very lucky boy. There is a procedure that has seen success, but I can't get it here and insurance doesn't cover it.  There is a procedure being done in China involving Umbilical Cord Stem Cells.  If I can get some of these stem cells I will have an 80% chance at gaining some sight.  The hard part about this is it costs around $60,000.  This includes the stem cells, hospital stay, a month long stay in China, airfare, and a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber for my aftercare.  My momma, daddy, and I will be going to Qingdao China on July 14 to August 9 of 2008.  Wish me luck and please keep me in your prayers!
